VEILED BLESSINGS by ROB BURTON

19th - 26th Nov 2008

Private Viewing 19th Nov 7pm-10pm

Layers, veils that hide the blessings of a dancing god.
"He it is, the innermost one,
who awakens my being with his deep hidden touches. "
Rob's artwork discusses in colour and line the fluidity of the veils
of our being. Fundamentally shapes appear; in the process they grow and take on life, becoming living symbols that seem to have floated in the consciousness for many years. From the interpretation of the symbolic to the ritual of expression found within the sublime moment Rob endeavours to capture in colour and light the unseen energies that flow within and through life; inspiring, healing and uplifting us to cosmic and universal consciousness.
Rob's work has developed over many years of practice since completing
his BA in Printed Textiles at Liverpool Polytechnic in 1987 and in
1989 an MA in Textile Design at Birmingham Polytechnic. His work
covers the mediums of drawings, painting and textiles with outcomes
ranging from 2d works to evocative fabrics and cutting edge wearable
artworks.

SIMONE WALLACE

29th Nov - 20th Dec 2008

Closing night showcase 20th Dec 7pm-11pm

An exploration of deteriorating cityscapes which are regurgitated as uniformed pulp noir drawings; suggestive of graphic novels, they represent the slow-moving silent transformation of the neglected.
'The intention behind the work is question our values of the old and whether the mass production of taller much bigger buildings will completely diminish and overpower the buildings with historical values. It has become the ignored subject - an invisible world which is the cause of overcrowded areas; deprived, broken and mistreated.'
During the exhibition there will be a live drawing session where the drawing develops over the three week exhibiting period. A combination of documentary styles juxtaposed against the dark and mysterious back streets of the urban landscape.

All exhibitions at the 491 gallery are FREE to the community.

Exhibition opening times vary, please refer to the exhibition you would like to see.

The 491 Exhibition space.

Here at 491 gallery, we have never had so many great exhibitions
back to back as we do now !

The 491 gallery is an incredibly versatile place. We offer a space for artisits of many different mediums to exhibit their work in a completely unique exhibition space in East London.

Over the years we have had a diverse and exciting range of art displayed here, some of which can be seen in the picture gallery, history & artist directory sections of the site.

From budding young artists finding a space viable for them to exhibit for the first time, end of year exhibitions for St. Martins students, to those a little more established in the artistic community, we offer, quite simply, a space for artists to canvas their message

We offer space & curating opportunities to artists of all mediums to exhibit their work. Email: art@491gallery.com

The exhibition space, as with all projects here at 491 was put together with recycled materials & the kind donations & time & effort of the communities volunteers.

We are re-building our website, Some parts are only semi up & running:

Please keep coming back, It wont take long!
